I mean the problem with the Speaker of the House situation is our government was designed on the basis that if this kind of thing happened, it would force people to learn how to compromise and settle their differences like intelligent and rational humans, but this is the Republican Party, so lol they fucked.

what’s happening in the house right now reminds me of when we did a mock congress in AP gov. the parties were based on our real life political alignment. we had a big democrat majority and because filibustering seemed fun, the republicans decided to filibuster every bill that made it out of committee. the first few times, we quickly used the 3/5th+ democrat majority to end the filibuster but it was getting old fast. so our teacher eventually just looked at us and went “you know, in the real senate, they wouldn’t just sit around and listen. they’d just leave. you can walk out.” so we did.
